KAITI ROAD BOARD.

The monthly meeting of I lie above Hoard was held last, Friday evening in Mr McKay’s office, there being present : Messrs Bull, Keefer, Cox, and Harris. In the absence of the Chairman, Mr Bull was elected to the chair. Mr Cox, who took his seal, for the first time, was warmly welcomed by members. Mr J. i\l. (Jummiiig, secretary to the Whalaupoko Road Board, wrote in regard to the report on water and drainage, asking the Board to arrange for a committee to meet, a commit tee from the Borough Council, Gisborne Freezing Works, and Nelson Bros, to discuss matters in connection with same. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Harris, that the'Board form a committee and meet the other committee as requested. A legal opinion from Messrs Nolan am, .Skect with reference to Captain 'Pucker’s application to form a special rating district was received. Mr Harris thought, that, the document might, he preserved, as similar applications might come to hand later on. Mr Charles Ferris, Kawini Karalia, and Alibi Hetckia petitioned the Board for a grant to make a road from Block .'ii.'i, Kaiti, to the KaitiWainui road.—lt was decided to relet them to the Tilirangi Road Board, as the matter did not come under their jurisdiction. Mr W. G. Scofter wrote, drawing attention to the fact that a shed had

been erected in ;i very exposed place, on the Pouawa road. The shed wasj subject to the full force of the southerly winds, and should ail accident, occur he would hold the Board responsible. The .Secretary stated that he was informed that, the shed had been erected by Mr Currie. In reply to Mr Harris, the Overseer stated that, the shed was on the road.

It, was decided to inform Mr Currie that, the shed was an obstruction and would have to he removed. Mr C. Evans, Ixaiti, wrote, slating that stock trespassing on the loads were a great nuisance to himself and other settlers. The Ranger allowed his own to graze on the road.it was decided to advise Mr Evans if lie found any stock on the road to lay information, and the Board would deal with the matter. Mr C. W. Hursthniisc, Chief Engineer of Roads, wrote re roads in the Kaiti Block to he proclaimed as district roads, under the Public Works Ad, .18!* 1. The Clerk explained (ha! lie had supplied the. necessary information in Mr ißu st house. Mr , I oil tt Colbert (Overseer) reported that he had got liinaki street harrowed, rolled, and sown in grass. rci|iiire very little gravel. Trees were allowed to grow too high on Ruiene, Huxley, and l.yail roads, and were injurious to the roads. Six horses had been impounded during the mouth. The hand-rails on Ihe Hirini road bridge required repairing. Harris street, bridge had been repaired. lie also recommended that several other works should be earned out.

Willi reference to the trees on Rutene, Huxley, and Lyall roads, it was decided to write to the Lawn Tennis Club and Messrs Lysnar and Evans, requesting them to have the tops cur off the trees. It was resolved that the Hirini Road bridge be declared unsafe for heavy traffic and that the Board take steps to pass a bye law regulating heavy traffic during the winter months.

It was decided, as recommeuded by the Overseer, that the Hirini Road bridge he repaired at once, and also that gravelling be" done on Hirini, Huxley, DeLautour, and Darwin roads, and also fascines for the latter.

The balance-sheet presented showed that the Board was overdrawn to the amount of £222 -Is lid. Accounts were passed for payment to the amount of £63 10s 6c. It was decided that a meeting of ratepayers be called within one week after the certified balance-sheet had been reefived from Wellington,
