'A Maori named Rulene Taitapanui of Kanekanae, was remanded at the

Court yesterday , for alleged abduction of a Native girl under the ■age of sixteen years, at Tuparoa, on April 21st. Mr L. Rees appeared for accused. Bail was allowed in £SO. The case comes on on Wednesday next.

There was a large attendance of shareholders in the Co-operative Building Society at the meeting last night. Mr Symes (Chairman of Directors) presided. The ballot for £3OO resulted in favor of Mr T. Witty, of Kaiti. In the sale by tender, £IOO was disposed of for £34 and £2OO for £3O per / hundred pounds.

The sick fund stands at £2605, management fund £92, and benevolent fund £3O. A total of £2727. About 65 members paid the hospital fees.

Warm hearted and generous, no one outside Mrs Scddon lias the same bold ' on the women of the Liberal Party as Mrs Kennedy Macdonald.
