CLOSED HOUSES.

The Ashburton Club management I also received a wire from the Colonial I Secretary revoking the charter. A meeting I of the of the club was* at once held, and it was decided to close the bar and continue to sell liquor in the club rooms, iD order! to teat the right of the I Colonial Secretary to revoke the charter, which was granted in 1886. Dunedin, last night. The Port hotels opened this morning, but closed almost immediately. Milton hotelkeepers closed last night, * pending decision in the Appeal Court. £
Wellington, last night.
Tho police paid visits to tho Newtown hotels to-day, and made purchase of liquor with a view to future proceedings. All tho’ hotels are keoping opon, despite the refusal of the Committee to issue licenses.
TEN O’CLOCK CLOSING.
Per Press Association, Napier, last night. In accordance with the reduction vote carried at the last licensing poll, five of the hotels in the town and port were closed to-day, and the whole of Che hotels closed at 10 o'clock to-night for the first time.
In Gisborne last evening the hotels closed at 10 o’clock as now required} Punctually at ihat hour the bars were cleared, and the streets shortly afterwards presented a deserted appearance.
AUCKLAND HOSPITAL
3$E COMMISSION’S REPORT.
Per Press Association^ Auckland, last night.
The Commission appointed by the local oodles to inquire into the management of tue Auckland Hospital has adopted a report. in which the policy of the Hospital Board was criticised at some length. Various alterations are recommended in the direction of economy and greater efficiency. The Commission favors the proposal to erect a hospital for minor infectious diseases near the present hospital, Co be under tho management of the Hospital Board. In regard to various diseases a temporary hospital at Motuihi is recommended should the occasion arise. The Commission recommends the curtailment of the hospital concessions to friendly societies ; also that a Royal Commission be appointed to inquire into the arrangements of the Costly Home.
