A NOVEL COMPETITION.

Messrs Adair Bros.’ display last evening attracted a considerable amount o£ attention, and many pleasing comments "were passed on the enterprise displayed by the firm. At half-past seven there was quite a crowd assembled outside the premises, and during the evening five hundred and forty-five persons inspected the splendid display made by the firm in celebration of the opening of two new additions. Everything was shown to the utmost advantage, and the electric light added considerably to the brilliancy of the scene. Great interest was taken in the competition for the prize of two guineas offered by the firm to the one guessing nearest to the number that entered the shop during ‘ the evening. Each person entering was given a ticket upon which to make the guess, and the ticket was collected upon leaving. Mr Thomas Ab'berton was successful in guessing the exact number, five hundred and fortv five, and four others, Miss Third, and Messrs H. Symes, E. Law, and L. Humphreys, guessed within two of the number. During the evening musical selections on the gramaphone were given in the shop, under the supervision of Mr P. Sheridan, who provided a choice assortment of popular airs, which needless to say, were much appreciated. Messrs Adair Bros, are to be congratulated upon the success of the display made last evening.
