GISBORNE OPERATIC SOCIETY.

'• lOLANTHE ” TO BE PRODUCED

A largely-attended meeting of those interested in the formation of an Operatic Society was held, in the Club room of the I Masonic Hotel last evening. Mr A. F. Kennedy was unanimously voted to the chair. The Chairman gave particulars of the former Operas produced in Gisborne, and on his proposition it was decided that the old Gisborne Operatic Society should be revived. The election of officers resulted as follows : —Secretary, Mr H. G. j Watson ; treasurer, Mr A. W. Adair; I business manager, Mr W. Miller. It was decided to approach Mr Sidebottom with a view of ascertaining whether he would undertake the conduct of the Opera. Mr Kennedy was appointed stage manager, and the following committee were elected : Messrs E. D. Smith, E. .H. Mann, Dalrymple, M. Foster, W. F. Crawford, A. S. Seymour, and Dr. Buckeridge. After some discussion it was decided that the Opera of “ lolanthe ” should be produced in October, and that it should be put into rehearsal at once. Mr J. H. Gittos consented to act as pianist. Mr Kennedy kindly placed his hall at the disposal of the Club, and it was decided that the first rehearsal should be held on Thursday next. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to tho chairman.
