POULTRY SHOW.
By 'Holograph—Press Association. Ashburton, last night.
Tho annual show of tho Poultry Society opened to-day. The entries were slightly less than last year, but the exhibits were a superior lot. Tho principal prize takers were :—Game classes : Bittcliff and Me Gill, S. Mclntyre, It. T. Clarke. Minoroas : A. Henry. Plymouth Books: T. Lundon and C. M. Watson. Dorkings and Cochins :B. Clarke. Wyandottes: F. 0. Hack (who secured Sooiety’s gold trophy for best golden cookerel), B. T. Clark and G. H. Blair. Leghorn : C. Jmoas (trophy for best white cockerel), W. TP Bobinson, and B. T. Clark.
ALLEGED BURGLARY.
A. young man named Smith was charged at the Magistrate’s Court with breaking and entoring the offioe of the Frozen Meat Company, at Fairfield, and abstracting a cash bos containing £4O, on June 26th. Ho was remanded for a week. Bail in two sureties of £SO was forthcoming.
A FIRE.
At iibout sis o’clock a, two-storey dwelling, occupied and owned by Thomas Lester, was completely destroyed by fire. The furniture was insured for 4100 in the Phcnnix office, and the building for 4250 in the Liverpool, London and Globe office.
