KAITI ROAD BOARD.
A meeting of tho above Board was held last evening, there being present: Messrs Harding (ohairman), F. Harris, Keefer, Bull. CORRESPONDENCE. _ Mr Northland, Secretary of Veterans Home, wrote asking for a list of men in tbis district who wore killed, died from diseaso, or were accidentally killed in South Africa, and also of men who went there on their own account; the list was required for the National Memorial Tablet in the Veterans’ Home. Tbs Ohairman thought that the Clerk should obtain information from other local bodies, and endeavor to get as complete a list as possihle. The matter, he considered, deserved their attention. This was agreed to. NEW ROADS.
Captain Tucker wrote as follows I have the honor hereby to ask your consent to the gazetting by the Minister of Lands of certain proposed roads leading from or into Crawford road, Kaiti, with the intent that being gazetted as roads a sum oi money may be borrowed by special loan on tho adjacent sections, for the purpose of forming and metalling the same roads. The plan of the roads may be seen at Mr Matthews’ office. I think your Board will perceive the desirability oi increasing the improvement and the rating power of the Board. I observe by the Gazette that similar action has been assented to in Montrose.” The Chairman said the question was not a new one, but the Board should be perpectly acquainted with Captain Tucker’s proposals. Captain Tucker intended the Board to be the medium for borrowing so as to effect the improvements mentioned. Mr Cox thought if the roads were gazetted that the Board would be liable to maintain them. Mr Bull was of opinion that they could not legally entertain the proposal. The Chairman said they had to pay for the legal opinion, and he thought they should not deviate from it. Mr Bull said if the Board did not consent Captain Tucker could not borrow the money. , It was decided to adjourn tho consideration of the letter for a week, and in the meantime to obtain all information. RUTENE ROAD.
Mr J. W. Wade wrote asking for permission to trim tho footpath in front of hi 3 section in 'Rutene road, so that the water would havo a fall to tho road dram. Mr Harding moved that the application be granted on the conditions that the work was carried out under the entire supervision of tho Overseer. Carried. OVERSEER’S REPORT.
The Overseer reported that all the roads were in good order, and everything was going on satisfactorily. He complained that a heap of rubbish was lying in front-of Mr Bott s place in Rutene road, another heap near Mr Ellery’s. He asked that •l-he nuisance be suppressed. He also pointed out that the Lawn - Tennis Club had not cut the trees as requested, but only, according to their own benefit. , ~ . . ~ Mr Harris said that the footpath at the corner of Harris street required some repairs. The Overseer was instructed to carry out the work. WATER SUPPLY SCHEME.
Mr Cox asked if the Board had given serious consideration to the water supply scheme. He thought the Whataupoko Board should not be allowed to take the control of the Waimata river, or other local bodies might have to pay dearly if they required water from that source.. The Chairman said that the people of Whataupoko could not take the matter over by themselves. They would have to amalgamate. It, was he thought, premature to make a move in the matter. Mr Cox said that Kaiti would soon want water. ~ , The Chairman said there would be a big development of the water supply scheme during the next month, and the Kaiti Road Board would be Wlth The usual resolution dealing with
the Board’s overdraft was passed,| the amount not to exceed the sum of £350. On the motion of Mr Harding, seconded by Mr Bull, it was unanimously agreed to raise the Overseer s wages by one shilling per day. ' Accounts amounting..,to £23 ids were passed forjraymcnt.
