PROHIBITION.
AND SUPPLYING WHISKY.
By Telegraph—Press 'Association—,i Christchurch, last night. A ohargo against F. Cross and Son, a Christchurch firm of spirit merchants, of soliciting orders for whisky in Ashburton prohibited district, was heard before Mr Haselden this morning. The alleged soliciting consisted of an advertisement in the Ashburton Guardian, stating that whisky could be supplied to residents of Ashburton, and that country orders wero promptly attended to.
Mr G. Harper, for the defence, submitted that soliciting under the Alcoholic Liquor Sale Oontrol Act meant personal canvass by a person in the prohibited district. Mr T. W. Stringer, for the prosecution, contended ' that the advertisement was a S articular method of solicitation, for it was n advertisement contained in a local papor and addressed to local people. Judgment was reserved.
