(Per Press Association.) i Christchurch, last night. The official opening of tho electrical plant in connection with the city destructor took place this evening. The Mayor started the engines, and formally took over the plant on bohalf of the city from Messrs Noyes Bros., of Dunedin, the contractors. At a social function later tfie toast of the contractors was honored, and high tributos paid by several speakers to the manner in which the work had been carried out. The plant, which is operated by steam generated by the burning of refuse, is estimated to produce two hundred and forty units of electricity per day, and to return a profit of nearly a thousand pounds per annum after paying, for the collection of rubbish,
