BEATRICE VARTHA CONCERT.
Beatrice Vartha, the renowned pianist, will make her appearance on Wednesday next at the Theatre Royal. As a pianist the principal of the company stands beyond question in the first rank. The items selected by her for Wednesday’s programme are from the compositions of the greatest masters cf the pianoforte, and allow this talented artist to exhibit her thorough mastery of the technique of her art, with a faculty and precision in exccu tion born of infinite pains, which captivates her audiences, arousing them to a pitch of enthusiasm.
Bliss Vartha’s first item selected is a solo. (A) Serenade Schubert—Liszt. (B). Valse Poetique, Gottsehaik, bracketed, which !is, says the critic of the Christchurch Pres 3: Skilfully and artistically rendered, the apparently separate intelligence guiding each hand being especially noticeable in the first part. The brilliant execution was followed by a storm of applause, which was not allayed until the gifted performer returned and played a charming Bercuse, by Chopin. In the second part a piano and violin duet is given by Miss Vartha and Herr C. Lehmann. Herr Lehmann . has proved himself to be a master of the violin," his execution is skilful and marked by true artistic feeling. The box plan is now,"-o’pen at Miller’s. Owing to demand foi seats early application is necessary to secure them.
