'A serious railway accident occurred at Broad Arrow. The northern goldfields express was approaching the station. The engine and -first carriage passed tho points safely, but'the second carriage containing thirty passengers split the points and toppled over. 1 The four remaining carriages, containing many passengers, swerved on to the loopline, luckily keeping the rails. Six passengers were injured.- A mail named Martin Nicholson sustained a compound fracture of the collarbone, which penetrated the lungs, and his condition is serious. T. J. Stanton was injured in the* .ypinc. Mesdames Williams, Sharp, and Phillips* and Miss Warren sustained injuries to the head through the severe shock.

The official theory is that the accident was cajised by the failure of the lock-points, vibration causing them to shift out.
