Per Press Association Auckland, last night,

James Miller, a sailor on tho s.s. Rotoiti, was charged at tho Polico Court with attempting to commit suicide. Ho had been drinking heavily, and was found lying across tho rails in front of an approaching shunting ongino in tho Auckland railway yard. Ho told tho railwayman to lot 'her como. James Millar, a Scotchman, aged about 05, has boen arrested on a ohargo of attempted suicide. It is alleged that he threw himsolf iu front of tho Newmarket railway engine and narrowly escaped being killed. A woman named O'Connor, ugod 80, »Siod in a tramcor whilo going to a sorvico at St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
