AUCKLAND NEWS.
Per Press Association Auckland, last night,
James Miller, a sailor on tho s.s. Rotoiti, was charged at tho Polico Court with attempting to commit suicide. Ho had been drinking heavily, and was found lying across tho rails in front of an approaching shunting ongino in tho Auckland railway yard. Ho told tho railwayman to lot 'her como. Ho was escorted off tho yard and half an hour lator Miller suddenly jumped a fonco and stood in (front of anothor train leaving tho station. Tho ongino was pulled up hardly a socond 400 soon, Miller being knocked down and ■struck on tho shoulder. Accused explained that ho was suffering from delirium tremens. Ho was remanded till Friday to soeuro cvitlonco respecting his condition. Mr John King, Registrar of Electors at Auckland, has resigned, owing to worry ifor tho last 18 months. James Millar, a Scotchman, aged about 05, has boen arrested on a ohargo of attempted suicide. It is alleged that he threw himsolf iu front of tho Newmarket railway engine and narrowly escaped being killed. A woman named O'Connor, ugod 80, »Siod in a tramcor whilo going to a sorvico at St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
