'A’ TREAT FOR ORMOND^
The residents of Ormond and surrounding districts have a rare musical treat in store to-morrow evening, when the Beatrice Yartha Concert Company will give one of their grand popular concerts. The star of the company, Miss Beatrice Vartha, is unrivalled for skill and execution in piano playing, and at her concerts in Gisborne, she received quite an ovation after each of her items. Miss Vartha is supported by a first-class company, and the Ormond public should make it a point not to miss the opportunity of hearing this talented combination, as they leave for Auckland on Wednesday morning. SACRED CONCERT.
Last night at the Theatre Royal a crowded house greeted the Beatrice Vartha Concert Party, assisted by leading amateurs. Miss Vartha opened the programme by giving an exquisite interpretation of Chopin’s funeral march, which was attentively listened to. In her second solo Gottschalk’s Tremolo, she captivated the .'audience, who showed 1 , their keen appreciation by, vociferously demanding an encore. Mr- Teat, who was in excellent voice, sang with much feeling, “ The Way of Peace,” which suited his fine voice admirably. Later on he sang “ Liebeslien.” Miss Florence Narelle, who has become a great favorite with a -Gisborne audience, sang with excellent taste and expression, ” Ora Pro Nobis'," which gave her ample scope to display her rich notes. Later on she sang “ The Children’s Home,” which was acknowledged to he undoubted!}' the song of the evening. Mr Barlow sand “ Heavenly Way,” in his usual good style. In liis second song, ” The Pilgrim,” lie was most successful. Herr Lehmann favored the audience with two selections, which delighted the audience, who, on each occasion, demanded an encore. The playing of this artist will be long remembered in Gisborne.
