EDUCATION BOARD.

MATTERS AFFECTING GISBORNE (Special to Times.) Napier, last night. At the meeting of the Education Board to-day Mr Tanner was unanimously reelected chairman. His work for the past year was highly eulogised by members. Matawbero : The application for a new teacher’s residence was deferred till October. Mr IV. J. Quigley is to report on the necessity of reflooring the school building. Port Awanui: The request of the Port Awanui Committee for school house was considered, and it was decided that the Department be requested to give a special grant, considering the exceptional circumstances.

Waipiro : The application for a bell was granted. Waeraonga a-hika : Mr Quigley’s report re teacher's residence was deferred till October.

Whatatutu : The residents’ request for a school was referred to the Department. It was decided to hold a meeting of the Board in committee on tho evening previous to the noxt meeting of tho Board, to consider the question of building grants and other matters. A letter was read from the Matawbero Committee asking for information as to how the working of the Workers’ Compensation for Accidents Act affected them in oase of accident to any person employed by them. It was decided to refer the matter to the Board’s solicitor for his opinion.
