WAIAPU FARMERS’ UNION.
REQUIRE REPRESENTATION ON HARBOR BOARD. (Special to Times.) Waipiro, last night. A meeting of tho Waiapu Branch of the Farmers’ Union was held on Saturday at Tuparoa, Mr T. S. Williams in the chair. In dealing with the correspondence it was decided to send a telegram to the Premier asking for his assistance in the passing of Mr Kirkbride’s Mutual Insurance Bill. It was also decided that the Provincial Executive be recommended to support the registration of agreements and boundary fence lines. The Branch did not consider it advisable that steps should be taken to obtain the services of solicitors at reduced rates. It was decided to form three subbranches, and that future meetings be held in rotation at the sub-branches, the next meeting to be held at the northern end of the Bounty.
It was resolved that the meetings be held on the last Saturday in each month, at II o’clock.
The question of tho manner in which tho Government had administered the Waipiro Hot Springs was discussed, and members were of opinion that the loase of the reserve and the position allowed by tho Government to bo created was detrimental to the interests of tho district. It was decided to communicate with the Executive on the matter. Some discussion took place on the representation of the Waiapu County on the Gisborne Harbor Board.
It was pointed out that the Harbor Board consisted of three members nominated by the Borough Coudcil, three by the County Council, and three Government nominees. It was decided to bring tho flatter before the Government and urge seme ayct.en? of representation for the Waiapu Coilnty. It was also resolved to ask that a proportion of the purchase money from Crown lands for roading, etc., should be handed over to the County Council for expenditure,
