A wreath sent by His Majesty the King to I-latfield was inscribed—

“ 7fs a mark of the deepest regard, greatest respect, and the sinccrcst friendship.” The Queen’s wreath was inscribed : "In memory of Lord Salisbury, who was uni versally loved and mourned as one of England’s best and greatest statesmen.” The Archbishop of Canterbury, Bishop of Colchester, and local clergy officiated at the service in Westminster Abbey. The scene recalled Mr Gladstone’s funeral service.

The gathering was of a national character, representatives of overy section of the community being present. Service was'also held in St. Saviour’s Collegiate Church, Southwark, the ma jorifcy of thoso present belonging to the working classes. In many parishes, church services were also held.
