KAITI ROAD BOARD.

A meeting of tho above was held last evening, there being present Messrs F. Harris, B. Cox, A. Keefer, and F. W. Bull. In tbo absence of the Chairman (Mr J. A. Harding) Mr Bull was voted to the chair. SUBSIDY. The Land and Income Tax Department notified the payment of £l6 Is 4d, subsidy due to the Board. APPOINTMENT OF HEALTH INSPECTOR.

The Borough Council wrote asking for the confirmation of the following resolution: —“ That the committee suggest that the present Sanitary Inspector for the Borough bo recommended to the Health Department for the appointment of' Inspector for the Borough of Gisborne, Whataupoko, Haiti, and Titirangi Road | Boards at a salary of £2OO per annum, the Haiti Road Board to contribute £30.” Mr Cos thought that the amount was too much for the population of Haiti to contribute. Mr Keefer said he objected to the suggestion for the same reason. The Chairman thought that it was absolutely absurd to ask the Haiti Board to contribute such an amount. Mr Keefer was of opinion that the settlers would not support it. Mr Harris considered that the delegates who arranged the matter were far behind the times. Mr Keefer thought the adjustment should be made on the rateable area. He | moved accordingly. Mr Harris said that at the conference it was suggested that the Taruheru district bo excluded. This, ho thought, was wrong. He considered tho Borough Inspector was not overcrowed with work, and could easily include Haiti and Whataupoko. Tho Chairman seconded the motion. Mr Cox did not see why the Clerk and the Overseer could not undertake tho duties. He could not see how Haiti could afford to pay £BO. Tho Chairman thought an independent man should hold the position. Mr Cox said that to levy the district with such heavy rates would stop tho progress of the place. The motion w as earned. 1 DRAINAGE AT MONTROSE.

The Cook County Council wrote ro the petition of settlers of Montrose for relief from the storm water that accumulates upon their lands, The cost of the drains required would be about £4O, but the Council refused to hear a share of the cost.

Tho Chairman said the letter was very rough on the Board, as the water all came from the Titirangi and CookCounty Council drains. He suggested that the Oversec-r should report. The Chairman considered the matter was not pressing, as the fine weather was coming on.

it was agreed that the Overseer should prepare a report to bo discussed at next meeting. Mr Harris said he heard that some of the settlers were goiug to take action m the matter on their own account.

OVERSEER’S RETORT.

Tho Overseer reported that he hud patched the roads where required, as agreed at last meeiiug. The bridge at' Mr Bott’s corner required repairing. The sottlers had guaranteed the necessary funds for tho formation of Harris street footpath, and it could be started at oneo. The roads were keeping in fair order. Mr Cos said he would like to have the Overseer’s report on the bridge in Darwin street, as to tho advisability of jraising it. He would contribute £5 towards the cost. It was agreed to obtain tho report, Mr Keefer thought that the Montrose settleis were to be studied in tho matter of drainage, as they had been very patient, and he suggested that the Overseer should report on the works that were absolutely 1 necessary. There was also the drainage at Hicks' corner which required attention. He also referred to the necessity of cleaning out the drain on the main road. The Treasurer’3 report- showed that £93 15s 6d had been collected for rates daring the past month. Accounts were presented for payment amounting to £32 6s lOd.
