A fiveknot wind is blowing, and is freshening. The race started at 1 o’clock, Reliance leading slightly. At 3 o'clock, Reliance was a mile ahead of Shamrock. Later. Reliance won,' retaining the Cup.

Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, last night, ' The following has been received, via the Pacific cable, by the Royal New Zealand Yacht S ! qtiadron : NEW YORK, Sept. 3. A’ dense fog prevailed this morning' over the international racecourse. Observers at the highlands report at 8 o’clock that they were unable to see more than 100 ft. There is a six-mile, breeze from the north. At 0 a.m., the fog began to lift somewhat, and the wind from a qjuarter west of north still held at about six miles an hour. 9.30 a.m.—The yachts left the anchorage and headed for the lightship under tow. The starting time, unofficial, is : Reliance, lhr lmin lOsec ; Shamrock llir lmin 14sec. 1.14 .p.m.—Reliance in a quarter of an hour worked into a position an eighth pf a mile to windward of Shamrock, and is leading half a mile to windward. . 3.13 p.m.—Reliance leading by one mile. Reliance turned the outer mark at 3.41 p.m. At 4.9, Reliance had covered five miles of the 'run home, leading by about If miles. A small split in Reliance’s spinnaker will retard her. Reliance is two miles from the finish. The fog is very dense. Later.—Reliance won. Shamrock was three miles behind at the finish.
