SOUTHLAND DEFEATS AUCKLAND

Per Press Association,

Invercargill, last night. The Auokland v. Southland football match was won on the post by the local team by ninß points to six. The visitors led by one point until about five minutes to the call of time. Then Southland got an opening, aud put on four points, a goal from a mark. The visitors’ play was greatly admired, while tho local play was patchy. The weather and ground could not have been improved on, thore being neither sun nor wind. Four thousand people were present, and it is regarded as the best match soon here.
