SUNDAY TRAMS.
(Per Press Association.) Auckland, last night. A meeting was held last night of representatives from the various churches for the purpose of considering “ What steps should be taken to prevent the desecration of Sunday by the running of tramcars.” The Rev. W. Ready, President of the Ministers’ Association, was in the chair. He explained that the Ministers’ Association was in thorough sympathy with the objocts of the meeting, being utterly opposed to making any compromise in the matter of running Sunday trams, consequent on the stopping of the service during the time of church services. The opinion was freely expressed that if the workors looked at the matter in the right way they would recogniso that any invasion of the day of rest was a step in the direction of all having to work on Sunday. A committee was set up for the purposo of drafting a circular to be issued to every voter prior to the poll, setting forth the reasons why the trams should not run on Sundays. It was also decided to hold two mass meetings prior to the poll.
