Lysnar (Gißborne), Watj son (Waimata), aid Heggarty (Whata tutu). .T’ ’> The first busiDefs was whether the press representatives should be admitted 3 to the meeting. 8 Tbe Chairman urged careful oonsidera- - tion of the matter. f Messrs; Wallis, Watson, and others 3 favored the press being excluded. i Mr W. D. Lysnar thought the press representatives should bo allowed to re« main. The matters under consideration were of a very imppitant nature, and it > was only right that publicity should be ' given to the deliberations of tho unioo, ) so that farmers throughout the district [ would know, wbat was being done. He was sure the union had nothing to be ashamed of, and for that reason tho meeting should be open to the press, I Members generally expressed the I opinion that tbe press should be exoluded, I aDd a motion to that effect was oarried. f The business of tho ovenlng, wbioh was the political situation of the union, was then proceeded with. I After two hours’ deliberation the following decisions were arrived at and com-1 municated to the press : I A letter was received from the Colonial Executive forwarding three questions to I be asked the candidates. I Mr St. Leger proposed, and Mr Watson seconded, “ That no additional question be asked the candidates.” —Carried. I Mr Redpath proposed, “That failing the questions beiDg answered in writing i by the candidates, the questions be asked ’ the candidates on the public platform by 1 the chairman.”—Oarried. J Mr Redpath moved, and Mr Wallis 1 seconded, 11 That the question of the selec- f tion of a candidate be deferred until the C questions are answered in writing.”—Oar- I ried. 6

The meeting adjourned until Saturday, November 4th, at 2 p.m., when it is expeoted the replies of candidates will be to baud*
