MR, JELLICOE WITHDRAWS
FROM CASE.
(Per Press Association.) Wellington, last night. At the Audit Commission, R. J. Collins, assistant seer.- tiry to the Treasury, said he had searched all the votes out of which it was possible Captain Seddon could have been paid for re-organisation of Defence stores or for any other purpose, add had found no traoe of such payment. It was absolutely impossible that such a cheque could have been paid without a record appearing in that Department’s books.
Witness was cross-examined by Jellicoe at great length about tbe minutiae of Departmental procedure, and was repeatedly called tQ order by the Bench. Their Honors considered that he was deliberately wasting tbe time of the Court and endeavored to close tbe issues.
At last, after heatod controversy, Mr Jellicoe said be desired to say that he would take no further part in the proceedings, as no good purpose could be served by doing so. Mr Justioe Edwards: It remains to be seen whether Mr Fisher is responsible for the gtois and improper waste of time this Court has been subjected to. The Commission adjourned until this morning.
