In his remarks at Halensville the Premier alluded to the eveDts in Russia as revolting to the civilised world. Every effort should be made to etop the mas-
sacres going on. With respect to the suggested sending of relief to the unemployed In England and the sufferers in Japan, he said that ia the cause of humanity and philanthropy he recommended these ovidonees of the generosity of the oolonists. The Government would help by seeing the contributions reaohed their destination. Ho asked for the assistance i f the press in impressing on his fellow* at tizens the necessity of taking action in ’“the direction indicated.
Halensville, yesterday. The Premier, referring to the distress among the unemployed in Englond, said he proposed to ask the Mayors, Chambers of Commerce and others in authority in the oolony to take steps to relieve the distress by providing foodstuffs for their unfortunate kindred at Homo. The oolony, he said, would defray the oost of sending the supplies to the Old Country. He also Blinded to the distress existing in the
famine-stricken districts of Japan. He would make inquiries regarding the truth of these reports, and if they were correot he considered that within three or fonr weeks they should be able to send a shipload of food to the sufferers. He had communioatßd with bis colleagues in regard to these matters to-day, and his eng* igeslions had been approved, His remarks on these these two questions were greeted with applanse.
