BOWLING TOURNAMENT

NORTH ISLAND ASSOCIATION,

Wellington, last night. Final arrangements for the North Island Bowling Association’s tournament, which begins on Monday nest, were made at a meeting of the Council of the Association to-night. Tho Vice-President of the Association (Mr F. W. Haybittle) wrote stating that he would give a special trophy of four pairs of silver-mounted bowls to tho club scoring tbs highest aggrega'e number of points in the inter-club matches, exclusive of first and seoond prize winners. The arrangement to hold iutor-club ma'ches on the city greens, and pairs and singles at Petonr, war confirmed. It was decided not to hold the projected match North Island v. South Island. Only four rinks will be present from the South Island, and the Association expressed an opinion that ft was not expedient to play tho match uelrss there wore at 1, ast ten rinks a side. Instead of this, it was decided if possible to play a match betweon c’ubs north and south of tho Wanganui river, on Friday of next week. S-tbsiquon'.ly it was informally suggested that a better plan would bo to arrange for a citizens' match open to all comers, and it is probable that the suggestion will corns up for consideration at a melting of bowlers wh’ch is to be held on Wednesday night to discuss a variety of bowling maltsre. Play will commence at 9 o’clock on Monday morning. The 81 olub3 engaged have for the purposes of the competition been divided into three sections, A, B, and 0, as follows : A—Hastings, Hawera, Wavcrley, Southland, Tborndon, Karori, Gisborno, Napier, Auck'aod, Rocky Nook, Carterton. B—Feilding, Carlton, Braohe Oak, Kol. burne, Wanganui, Dunedin, Ponsonby, Petone. Victoria, Palmerston. o_NewtowD, Masteiton, Remuera, Patea, New Plymouth, Greonmeadows, Huts, Pabiatua, Wellington, 3tiatford. The order of play bar yet to be decided. The Gisborne tram of bowlers arrived at Wellington by express train this evening after a spknlid passage. One member of the team misred tho train at Kaitoke
