At the Police Court yesterday morning, before Mr Barton, S.M., Thomas Manning, a young mail, was charged with drunkenness. lie pleaded guilty, and was fined 5s and costs, in default 24 hours’ imprisonment. , Messrs. Miller and Craig, the wellknown firm of auctioneers, have received instructions from Mr. J. Moss to sell the whole of his' household furniture and effects, entirely without reserve. The sale takes place at 2 p.m. to-morrow. A meeting of the Committee in connection with the “Niclit. wi’ Burns, ’ to take place on Friday evening, was held last night, Dr. Scott presiding. Reports showed that the gathering was an assured success. The arrangements were completed, and there is every reason to anticipate a most enjoyable evening. In comparing the official handicaps of the Gisborne Racing Club’s Summer Meeting, received by mail, with the weights published by wire, the following alterations arc found necessary : Flying Handicap, Gladsmuir’s weight is 7.6, notY7.7;; First County, To Arai is 7.s;i;iiot 7.7, and .in tlie Park Stakes, Immolation’s weight is 8.11, not 8.12. Glenafric, omitted from the First County, is weighted at 3.10.
The Provincial Army Band_ that arrives on Saturday morning is having a very successful time _ down Soutli, and should he well received in Gisborne. The Army have had some good hands travelling from time to time, but this is said to be the finest they have over sent to Gisborne, they come 36 strong. They also possess some good vocal talent, which will bo heard to advantage on Sunday evening next; on Sunday afternoon the Band will give a choice sacred programme from the rotunda, Recreation Ground.
