AN EMBEZZLER.
A. W. PURVIS PLEADS GUILTY. Press Association. WELLINGTON, last night. Alexander Wait Purvis, ex secretary of the Wellington Benevolent Trustees, was charged beforo the stipendiary magistrate to-day with the theft of various sums of money from the trustees. „ David Robertson, ex-cliairman of the Board, said that Purvis had no authority to use the funds of the trustees to discharge private accounts. One of the trustees hud received £l5O from Purvis to cover the amount of deficiency. The alleged defalcations were £l3O. A. T. Clarke, accountant, repeated the evidence given by him in the case against Ingrain, of Te Aro House. The transfers from the trustees’ account to Purvis’ account were not all included in the present, charges. Detectivo Williams, who arrested Purvis, said the latter remarked: “Yes, I know it was coming. I am not alone in this. I am the tool of the Te Aro House lot.” Accused then pleaded guilty, and was committed to tho Supreme Court for sentence. Bail was allowed.
