Enquiry made from the waterworks engineer, Mr. R. Hay, as to a statement re the collars of the water pipes being cut off, elicited the information that the pipes cut are those that have had the spiggott. ends damaged in handling on the way. The trouble at Wellington was ascribed to the collar end of the pipes not being slotted as in the case of the pipes being used at Gisborne. In regard to the spiggott end of the pipes it makes no difference to the borough how much is cut off, though to the contractor it means the loss of the portion of the pipes so cut and the expense of cutting them. The loss in pipes is so gieat through damage in transit that most firms row refuse to take the risk, and will only supply pipes to contractors on indent orders. Messrs Miller and Craig, acting under instructions from Mr Liclitwark, will sell at his residence, Customhouse street, the whole of his household furniture and effects, comprising drawing-room and kitchen furniture, linoleums, pictures, etc. Special attention is directed to a number of musical instruments which

Mr. Liclitwark wishes it explained that, though disposing of his effects, he is not leaving the district. She “Do you know I’ve induced my husband to give up cigars?” He: “Is that so?
