Press Association—Copyright. CALCUTTA, May 10. The situation in Lahore is serious. Sir D. C. J. lbbetson postponed bis departure and closely inspected the defences. La.jpatria is a leader in the Punjab Chief Court. He was organiser. financier, and inspirer of seditious violence. The Government’s hold step in deporting him startled the Hindoos, who counted upon inaction.
Later reports from Lahore state that', overawed by the military, Lajpatria was deported to the Andaman Islands.

Yetsings, another prominent agitator. has been arrested at Punjab. LONDON, May 11.
The Times says the Indian disturbances arc largely owing to Vaoraji’s utterances in December. It. adds that the movement for an Indian National Congress is incompatible with the fundamental principles of British rule as emphasised in Mr. Morley’s speech delivered in the autumn.
