HOCKEY.

The pupils of St. Mary’s Convent yesterday afternoon held a - practice hockey match at Victoria Domain. They are being coached in this good old winter pastime by the well-known sport, Mr. J. Martin, and will shortly challenge the Gisborne school girls to a game. Hockey is going ahead by leaps and bounds in the district, and this healthful exercise should receive more encouragement than it does at present.

At' Victoria Domain this afternoon

the second round of the Hockey contest will be commenced. On No. 1 ground City will meet Te Rau, Mr. Sadler being referee, and Mr. Pavitt will have charge of the game between Kia Kaha and West End on No. 2

ground. Following are the teams:— City: Martin, Doyle, Sargisson, Smith, Wilson, Bayly, C. Davy, Grinlinton, Friar, Armstrong, Rogers; emergencies, Edwards and Lewis. Te Rau will bo picked from: Tanner, Allen, Hamilton, Bushnell, Friday, Brown, Heke, Pine, Hakowai, Mute, Parnell, Coleman, Gorman, Cramp. Ellison, Timoti, Bridger, Hill, Buscke. Kia Kaha: Bright, Garrett, Willoek, Woodward, Grant, llitchins, Witty, Miller,. Hansen, Pollock, Campbell; emergency, Doolan. West End.: Hooper, AVills, Olsen, Rice, McLachlau, Roderick (2), Pirie, Glover, Oliver, Wi; emergency, Sims.
