SOUTHLAND WINTER SHOW
Press Association. INVERCARGILL, yesterday. Tlio Southland winter show opened yesterday afternoon, and was generally admitted to be the most successful over held in the district. The season has been exceptionally good for roots, and evidence of this fact is obvious in the displays, which are a fine feature of the show. Competition in most classes is keen, _ Cheese and butter, as usual, are leading sections, and this department fairly presented the magnitude of the industry in Southland, and the higi standard of quality reached by the factories. The immediate incentive to exhibitors in this class is a handsome sixty guinea trophy, t 0 bet ‘°® 6 the property of the factory that wins it three times consecutively, 01 live times altogether. Edendale now wins it for the second consecutive season, with a total of 12 points in all cheese classes; Mataura second / points; AVaikouaiti third, 6 points Edendale secured first and secon prizes in all sections, though other factories ran close here and. there, and taken altogether the show is admirable, and a credit to the progressive district. The railway bookings to Inverc gill for. the winter show to-day constitute a record. ___
