The time-honored theme—a breach of promise case—was utilised, tlo jury being called upon to consider the claim of a widow, Mrs. Carlotta Pepper, of £IOOO damages from MiKidder, as the result of his breaking 1 Ins engagement to marry nor. Dr. Collins acted ns Judge Mr. F. Me liCan, in a most excellent disguise, I repie-sented the widow, and Mr. M. Kimble took tho part of Mr. Kidder. T. Coleman, assisted by Mr. l ■ Collins, acted us counsel for tlie plaintiff, and Messrs. C. Lewis and Hodgson for the defence. The following acted as witnesses: Mcsdames (Dr.) Collins, T. H. Wood, Myes, Cox, Smith, and Miller, Messrs C. lOmorson, C. G. Blooro, Skeatcs, Dawson, and Vowles (2). The trial was capitally conducted, and being interspersed with plenty of genuine humor the large audience was kept in a simmer of merriment fron beginning to end. After evidence had been taken, counsel had addressed tho jury, and the Judge had summed up, the jury retired for a. few minutes and returned with a verdict for the defendant.
