HARBOR BOARDS.
POSITION OF COUNTRY DISTRICTS. Press Association. WELLINGTON, August 12. The Legislative Committee of the Wellington Harbor Board waited on the Minister for Marino to-day, relative to the Harbor Boards Bill, now before the House. The Minister explained that the onlv portion of an existing Aot that was repealed was that giving the Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce a seat on the Board. “Elector” meant any person qualified to vote for any local body. He thought it quite possible an amendment would be made putting the Boards in the four centres on the same footing as regarded numbers and Government representation. In liis opinion twelve was a fair number for a Board.' Three Government members out of ten members was too much. He did not think it necessary for the Mayor of the town tp have a seat on the Board by virtue of his office. As to country districts, lie would like to arrange representation on a rateable, basis, which was the only workable basis.
