ROTORUA RAILWAY SMASH.
Press Association. ROTORUA, August 13. The inquest on the recent railway accident was resumed to-day. Tlie evidence of Cooper (driver of the second engine), Dwyer (assistant guard who was injured) and Iyer (porter) was taken. No new facts were elicited. Ail the witnesses declared that the West nuthouse brakes were on when the train lelt latuiuiii. Tbo evidence of Dwyer and Iyer was taken at a ward in the Sanatorium. These were unable to leave the institution. The Court adjourned at six o’clock until seven. The evidence of the stationiuaster at I’ataruru is now being taken, after which the inquest, will be adjourned until to-morrow. Prior to the inquest being resumed to-day a- representative of the Y\ ostiwhouse Brake Company gave a practical demonstration Of the efficiency of the brake in the station-ya,”d, the Coroner ami jury being present. The demonstration, which took place at nine o'clock, before the departure of the express, was highly satisfactory.
