WEBB TESTIMONIAL The following letter has been addressed to the Chairman of the Gisborne Webb Testimonial Committee: “At a meeting of the committees of the Poverty Bay and Gisborne Rowing Clubs it was decided to support the movement to make Mr. Webb some suitable present and the following were appointed to the committee alreadv formed: Messrs C. J. Hamilton, H. M. Puflett, A. E. M. Smith, C. W. Muir, A. M. Coleman, S. Ledger. S. McConnell, D. E. Dustin, S. Stewart 1 , A. McConnell and W.- Webb.” Subscription lists can be obtained from the secretary to the committee, Mr. W. Oliver.

WANGANUI, Augu.st 16. William Webb, champion sculler of the world, met with a warm welcome home to-day. Some thousands of people met him at the station and, led by a band, escorted him to Cook’s Gardens. Speeches were delivered by the Mayor, tho member for the district and others. The Maoris danced hakas and presented Webb with framed photograph of himself and an illuminated address. The citizens presented an address. The local school children gave him 'eL barometer and cutlery for Mrs. Webb. The proceedings wore most enthusiastic. To-niglit the champion was entertained at a smoke concert.
