TAI-RAWHITI LAND BOARD
Tho Tai-Rawhiti District Maori Land Board sat yesterday afternoon. Colonel Porter, C. 8., presided, and Air. A. Keefer and Oteno Pitau were present. John H. AlcNeil applied for consent to lease AVliarau No. 1, the lessor being Te Kaaua Morete and others. Air. J. AV. Nolan appeared. The area in question was 133 acres. There wore 11 original owners and 20 successors, nine of whom had signed the lease. The improvements amounted to £llO, effected by the lessee.—The Board conditionally approved of the lease for three months, rental 5 per cent, of Government valuation. Air. T. Alston Coleman secured tho adjournment of two applications to Monday, viz., Robert Harper (Kaiti, No. 60) and E. B. Boland (Mangakeia IB No. 3).
Alary S. Sherwood applied for consent to lease 67 acres of Alakarika A, rental 9s 3d per acre.:—The lease was formally granted, the President remarking that its conditions wore entirely favorable to the natives. A lease to the same applicant of 15 acres of Alakarika D, 21 years at 9s 3d per acre, was also granted.
Eliza M. Wicksteed, applied to lease 20 acres of Rotokautu'ku, No. 6 f, from Petuere Awatere and others, for 30 years at 3s per acre, equal to 5 nor cent, on Government valuation. Mr. Nolan stated that the signatures of three of the four owners were attached. the other one being dead.— Provisional approval to Dec. 2nd was granted. The same applicant asked permission to lease 25 acres, Rotokantuku 6e. on similar terms. The signatures of the three owners had been obtained.—Formally approved, 30 years at 3s per acre: Provisional approval till December was also given to the applicant leasing 23 acres 3 roods 6 porches of Rotokautuku 21. fAr 30 years. The valuation was £0 per acre, and the rental fixed at 2s 3d for the first ten years. 2s Od for the second term- and 3s 3d for the concluding ten years.
