MATAWHERO STOCK SALE
The weather conditions yesterday were much more favorable for the fortnightly stock sales than had been the case recently. There was a fair attendance of the public and the bulk of the yarding was disposed of at. satisfactory prices. The fine weather of the past- few days has had an appriciable effect on the food supply, graziers being consequently much keener to do business, and any sheep in forward condition sold readily. Fats were very scarce, as farmers do not care to disturb their Hocks at lambing time by drafting out the dry ewes, and butchers were compelled to bid keenly to secure supplies. There was a fairly large entry of cattle consisting chiefly of young steers and heifers from Opotoki—which were penned in poor condition—and a mediocre lot of dairy cows. The latter were very hard to quit but the best of tlie stores met a fair demand. Beef cattle were scarce and any really prime sold well.
