“ANYTHING’S GOOD ENOUGH FOR HOME.”

[To the Editor.]

Sir, —An apologist for Mr. iveir Hardie lias arisen in Gisborne—l should have supposed there was not one in New Zealand. Your correspondent “P.J.H.” has, however, made it clear that “we inferior mortals should show esteem and appreciation to an eminent intellect.” Well, he can (vulgarly speaking, and Heaven knows ho is speaking vulgarly enough) have that “on his own.” 1 refuse to identify myself with the inferior mortals.

I assert that there is no greater traitor to the British Empire to-day than Mr. ILardie, and I tliiifk it would bo a lasting disgrace to Now Zealand if ho wero received with honor. Your correspondent has invited New Zealanders to placo themselves in tho same position as the Indian people, and think how they would welcomo this Angel of Mercy in their extremity. It appears to me that he is a little mixed, inasmuch as he (P.J.H.) is to-day fattening on the land that within the memory of this generation belonged to the Maori. Why should “P.J.H.” he to hypocritical? Or is it the instance as in TCeir Hardie’s case of “running with the bare and hunting with tlie hounds?”—l am, etc., DOCTOR. Gisborne, Oct. 8.
