DUNEDIN, Nov. 26. Captain McLay, master of the Hartley and Riley dredge, and one of the oldest dredge masters in Otago, was drowned at Cromwell this afternon. He was going ashore to take his shift on board when a rope holding the traveller broke, and the boat was capsized or was swamped. Ho swam for some distance, but could not get ashore. Deceased was 68 years of ago, and followed the sea till 1861, when he settled in Central Otago.
