Tho wicket had a bad crack at each end, particularly at the quo to which O’Connor bowled. The bowlers woro O’Connor and Saunders, and with 6 runs' added Crawford was easily caught and bowled by Saunders. llobbs iow went in and straightway patted a ball back to O’Connor, who missed it. Then Hobbs hit Saunders for lour, and straigai drive him for 6, which was tho host hit of the match. At 160 Bra.niJ was well caught by Hartigan at mid off. Braund batted for 2 hours and 40 minutes, and did not give a single chance. Ho hit 7 lours. Barnes stayed till the total was 177, when ho was caught at short square leg nil' a. lame stroke. Humphries was bowled at 182 and a good catch in tho long fiold by Rails ford disposed of Fielder. Tho innings lasted for 3 hours and 20 minutes, yielding 183 runs, which loft the Australians victors by 245 runs. Hobbs batted well to-day. Tho Australians fielded brilliantly, and O’Connor bowled finely, but the wicket helped him immensely. Alter tho match Hartigan and ITill were presented with souvenirs in commemoration of their record partnership. A shilling subscription yielded £25.

UNION v. TE RAU. At Victoria Domain yesterday Union easily defoated To Ran by a margin of 81 runs. Union batted first and put up 200. J. Lang and Miller were the first to bat and made a good stand—in fact they wiui the match. Lang made 83 and Miller 65, the first wicket falling at 122. Of the others “Extras” 17 and J. Gibson (15)were the highest •worms. Te Ran replied with 119 for 7 wickets, Aioore (42 not out), "Extras” (17), and J. AVack (17), being the highest scorers. Featon (2 for 21) bowled best for Te Rau, and .Miller (3 for 18) for Union.
