DANNEVIRKE, Jan. 16. Gamman’s Rakaiatai No. 2 sawmill, near Makotuku ,together with wharves, stables, and cook’s house, was completely -razed to tho ground tihrafternoon. Two men got through ■the lire, and report that three women, three children, -and 30 men are encompassed by tho fire, with no food or water.

WELLINGTON, Jan. 16. Mr. Arthur Ballinger, who last year won outright tho championship ■rifle belt, has written to the N.Z. Rifle Association, stating the conditions on which ho donates the belt to the Association for future competition. The chief conditions tire that the belt shall be known as the Ballinger belt, that it shall be competed for annually, and shall be held' by the winner for one year only
