EXPERIMENTAL FARMING
GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS VISIT AUCKLAND Press Association. AUCKLAND, January 16. Amongst the arrivals from South this week were Mr. J. D. Richie, Secretary for Agriculture, and Mr. E. Clifton, Chief Stock inspector. Interviewed to-day by a press_jeprcsentntive, Mr. Richie stated tnat tho chief object of his visit was to make a tour of inspection of tho various experimental stations in tho north. LLo left for Beckorstaflo in tho Kaipara district this afternoon, accompanied by Mr. Clifton. Bockerstaffo was recntily acquired by tho Government, tor closer settlement, but 1500 acres wero retained by the Government for experimental purposes. The various experimental stations in the province will bo visited in turn, and on Monday week tho Minister for Lands and Agriculture, Hon Mr. McNab, will join tho party.at lluakura.. Tho Minister and Chief Secretary will then leave by the overland route to Wellington. “Auckland is the most lorwaru province in the Dominion,’’ said .Mr. Richie, “you have more Government experimental work going oil in the North than in all the other provinces put together, and there can be no possible complaint that tho Government is not doing its duty. It is recognised that there is a* v ery largo scope for development in the North, and tho Department is doing its best to assist the various industries and districts.”
