Air. 1. S. Do Beer, one of the directors of tho firm of llallonstein Bros, is at present in Gisborne on a business visit. Yesterday the death occurred of a very old resident of tho district- in tho person of Air. Robert ATayhew Steggall. He was born in Suffolk, England. in 1838, and came lo Auckland in 18(52 by the ship Romulus. Late iu that year lie settled in Poverty Bay, and lie had lived 1 here practically ever since, being engaged as a farther-and-a hotelkeeper. At last night’s meeting of the Hospital Trustees the Hon. Captain fucker said that as an. election would be 'held at next meeting for tho position of Chairman of the Trustees, lie desired to express his thanks to members for their help during his term of office. His duties elsewhere would prevent him from continuing to hold the position of :hairman, but he honed to keep his seat on the Board, and he would aliiiivs help the Hospital ill any possible wav.
