MAYOR v. COUNCILLORS
Press Association. DANNE V IRKE, January 23. A peculiar situation lias arisen in the Borough Council. Tlie whole of Hie Council with the exception of tlie Mayor agreed upon the work of regrading and improving the main street of the town. A petition has been presented asking that the work bo not gone on with, but' the councillors decided that in view of the necessity for the work, the prayer 0 f petition could not he aeceeded to Later the Mayor refused to put a motion that the work he proceeded w«th and a deadlock has arisen. A special meeting was held again to-night to further discuss the matter, but . lo Mayor refused to put the motion. The Councillors all united in opposing the action of the Mayor and it is possible no Borough business will bo transacted until the Mayor gives way.
