THEIR FIRST DEFEAT,

The Now South Wales team which visited New Zealand entertained tho visiting Aucklanders, taking them in special touring cars to the show places round Sydney. They afterwards entertained them at lunch at the Wavorley green, Mr. Evans Crouch, who visited Now Zealand, spoke in measured terms of tho boundless hospitality accorded to tho Now South Wales bowlers when in Now Zealand.

The visitors played a six-rink match against the TYaver.ley team. The following are the scores:— Shaklriek. Mewbuvu, Mclntosh, Carlow, 22; TVavorloy, 25. Press Association. DUNEDIN, Jan. 23. Tho N.Z. Bowling Associations tournament was continued to-day. [n tho rink tournament (lie lour pairs now loft in are 'skipped by Harrnwav (Dunedin), Brackonridge .(Wellington), Bentley -(Dunedin), (toldstone (Waimato). In the singles those left in are: TYolf (United), Christie (Taieri). Jacobson (St. Kilda), and .Goldstone (TVaimate), or Carswell (Taieri).

TURANGANUI G KEEN

At. -the Turangamii Club’s green yesterday -a number of enjoyable practice games were played. Opportunity was taken to present to Messrs J. Colley and Neill the bowls won by them in the Handicap Pairs. Mr "Matthewson, President-, in making the presentation said ho lioped these would not be tho only trophies to be won by Messrs Neill and Colley. Messrs Neill and Colley expressed their thanks to the club for the howls and also to the donors, Messrs G. Mattliowson and J, J. Martin. The ceremony concluded with cheers for the winners. An adjournment to the refreshment room was then made. Mr Mattliewsou responded 1 to the toast- of “the President,” and in proposing “tho Club and Bowls” slid the club was very well satisfied with the meritorious performance put up by tho Turanganui representatives at tho Auckland tournament. They -did not disgrace themselves, -and lie hoped they would do better on a future occasion.

GISBORNE GREEN

Notwithstanding tho threatening weather the Gisborne Club’s green had an animated appearance yesterday afternoon. A fair number of oow.lers and their lady friends attended, and during the afternoon partook of dainty afternoon tea, provided by Mrs. F. J. TVilson, who, with her daughter and other lady friends, assisted in handing round tho refreshments. The play during the afternoon was of an exciting nature, several close finishes resulting. Brilliant handicapping was shown in the Handicap Singles, ties on tho last head occurring in two games. Following are detailed results:— Ilandioap Singles—Hennessy 27 v. It. Crawford 23, Corson 17 v. Williams 13, R. Robertson (lidcp 2) 24 v. Simson (scr) 15, C-oleman (lidcp 1) 20 v. Brady (lidcp 4) 19. Handicap Pairs—Burton and Frank Pottio (hdcp 7) 26 v. Lucas and E. Williams (hdcp 7) 9.
