THE HALIFAX MATCH

Regarding the Halifax match, the Daily Telegraph says that the prevalent conditions told heavily .against the New Zealanders. Considering tho heavy going, tho play was open and attractive, Halifax in particular passing and running well. A movement soon after the commencement by the ’homo backs resulted in Eccles scoring. This was followed by Messenger kicking a penalty goail. Later Thomas obtained a second try for Yorkshire, and although Messenger landed another penalty goal Halifax led by six to four at lialf-time. Throughout the second half Halifax more than held their own, another try being put on. The home team were dangerous on many occasions, and were only prevented from scoring by the resolute tadkling of the All Blacks. The Chronicle says: In meeting Halifax the New Zealanders faced one of the stffest tasks of their tour. The game was one of the best contested of the series played, and it was no disgrace to tho All Blacks being beaten. The victory—three tries to two goals—indicates not only the superiority of the winning side in attack, but also in defence.
Tho Manchester Guardian states: Evidently the wretched weather and the sodden state of the ground wore against tho New Zealanders. The Northern Union Club’s victory was tbo result of brilliant play and the speed of tho wing men.
