THE GISBORNE HOSPITAL

CONTRIBUTORS’' MEETING,

A meeting of subscribers of the Gisborne Hospital to elect a representative was held at the Farmers’ Union Club rooms last evening, when there was a fair attendance. Mr. W. Pettie moved, and Mr. V. Pyke seconded', that his Worship tho Mayor take the chair.—Carried. The Chairman referred to the death of Mr. J. Harding. Mr. Sherratt succeeded him, and the seat was rendered vacant through effluxion of time.

Mr. A. Wade proposed, and Mr. T. Spiers seconded* that Mr. G. E. Darton be elected to tho Board of Trustees. There being no other nominations, the Chairman declared Mr. Darton duly elected. The Chairman proposed, a vote of thanks to the medical staff and nurses lor their attention. The past year had been a very successful one, taking the result all through. Durmg the* year there had been a number of accident cases, but ho was glad to say that there had not been many cases of typhoid fever —very few indeed.

Mr. Darton said that in seconding the motion he took the opportunity of thanking the subscribers for electing him Trustee, and their interests would have every .attention. He had always taken an interest in the Hospital, and it was- satisfactory to mow that each member of the staff had done their best, ’and the result must be for the good of the institution. Wi th the support of the Trustees and the public behind, he was sure that they could look forward to even better results in the future.

Mr. It. Johnston had: much pleasure in supporting the proposal. With the new arrangements things ought to go very satisfactorily indeed at the Hospital. Ho also made reference to the death of Mr. J. Harding;' who took very great interest m hospital work. Ho hoped that this would be recorded on the minutes.

The Chairman directed that this bo done.

Tho Chairman said, that the matron wished to thank those kind friends who during tlie past year had attended the Hospital .and made presents of flowers, etc. He endorsed this, and he asked those present to do the same.—Agreed to by acclamation.

Mr. Johnston wished to point- out that Mr. Darton was a friendly society renresentative.

The Chairman said that that did not concern the meeting. The meeting terminated with ahearty vote of thanks to the Chairman, proposed by Mr, Pyke.
