SWIMMING.

It will give pleasure to all swimmers to learn -that 'there .is nothing now to stop an- early start being made with the Gisborne School .bath. It- is intended' to -make a start'-at once, and the bath should bo ready for use next swimming season. Early next year vigorous steps will have to be taken for the formation of aswimming club, and the formal opening of Hie bath could be made the occasion for a big swimming carnival. The dull weather of the past week has had an appreciable effect on swimming on the beach. Beyond a number of regular dippers the beach was almost deserted, and even on Thursday afternoon there was a very noor turnout.

■’ A number of handy little mirrors, issued by Messrs W. J. Cox and Coy, have been fixed in the bat King shed, and should be much -appreciated by swimmers. Tjip fund for the provision of fresh water at the beach is steadily growing, but at an early date vigorous steps will be t-.ken to collect, the iin aunt required. Those who wish a , uh-cribe -are reminded that lists viil be found at the “Gisborne Times” iffiee, Mr C. Morse’s shop, Messrs Johnston and Miller's shot) and with Mr J. Dole.

It was thought when B. B. Keran I that .it would be some time be- •' his- records were beaten; but low ■ l;as come to hand that Cecil Healey lias managed to break his record for 200 yards. Healey has been known for some time as a first-class sprinter, and the probability is tlia_‘ he will be unable to endanger Keirau's records fo-r distances over a furlong. A successor to Iveirun is ■wanted, and despite indications to tbc contrary he may turn up in Healey.
