At the Supreme Court to-day Benjamin O’Connoll (Obo'ica) was admitted to probation lor twelve months and ordered to pay costs lor assault with intent to commit a robbery. Other sentences were:—Jno. Alorroil, six months for iorgery; William Aloiris, two years for forgery; Samuel Bennett, 01 years old, live years for breaking and entering, theft, and Jorgery, and uttering, and was declared to be an habitual criminal; AViliiam Portelli, three montlis for breach of probation; David Courtenay, three years for theft from the person; Samuel Arthur Alaxton (Kaikoura), admitted to probation for false pretences; Frank Puddle, fined £lO for common assault; Neate, fined £lO for keeping a betting house. Hans Neilson entered a formal plea of not guilty to a charge of inurdering his wife at Addington, on November 13tli. He was acquitted, on the ground of insanity, and His Honor ordered that he should bo kept in strict custody in tho Sunnysido Alental Hospital until tho pleasure of tho Colonial Secretary was known.
IN AVELLINGTON. Press Association. AVELLINGTON, Feb. 10. At the Supreme Court to-day Robt. Rankin, who had pleaded guilty to stealing £22, was admitted to probation for two years, and ordered to pay costs of prosecution and refund the stolen money.
