PROPOSED DAIRY SCHOOL.
HON. AIcNAB AT 11AAYERA. I’ress Association. HAAVERA, Feb. 12. ■ Ihq Hon. Air. AlcNab left this morning lor New Plymouth, alter inspecting the sites that Hawera is o lie ring lor a dairy school. The All ms ter said that Hawera’s claims would be considered. Yesterday Air. AlcNab was driven around tlio district, and visited various dairy factories, and was entertained at lunch, at Kaiipoiiui. Speaking there, ho referred with .pleasure to the great expansion of the dairy industry. Tlio time had come, he said, when New Zealand must cease copying and find by scientific research that which i» adaptable to her own conditions. The dairy school is not to take the place of technical school ; in the small centres, but what was proposed was that the Agricultural Department’s institution would virtually bo a university, divided i;ito two departments, namely, scientific research and instructional. AA’hat a university was to medical students, law students, and clerical students, the dairy school would be to the farmer’s son, and would raise his occupation to that of a profession in the highest sense of the term.
