ROTORUA SAFE ROBBERY.
DETERMINED BURGLARS. Press Association. AUCKLAND, March 12. Iho detectives have steadily been pursuing their investigations in connection with the attempted safo robbery at the Rotorua railway station An arrest lias been made and further developments are expected. vSubsequent investigations proves beyond doubt that expert thieves were at work, and the attempt to wreck'tho safe was evidently the work of experienced safe breakers. •*, Mr J). Hyaniason, locksmith of Auckland, was engaged by the Government to go up and complete the work' of opening the safe, and on making examination he found the lock completely shattered, anil the steel plates were broken, unci all the r.ivets blown out. A dynamite cap and fuse were found in the office, but it is believed tint a much stronger explosive than dynamite was used in the bursting process, /is the thick steel plates wero bent and broken, the rivets and fittings absolutely shattered, and tho steel locks broken in two pieces. Tho top casting was pretty well blown, right off, and had the intruders not been alarmed, another ten minutes’ work would have been sufficient to onablo them to secure the contents of the safe, amounting to £7O or £BO.
